Santa Carolina is part of Carolina Wine Brands, one of the leading wine groups in Chile, which belongs to the Watt’s S.A. agribusiness group owned by the Larrain family. Vina Santa Carolina is established in 1875 by Luis Peirera and, with a history spanning over 140 years, Santa Carolina is one of the oldest wineries in Chile. Luis named the winery after his wife, Dona Carolina Iniguez. Don Luis was advised by French experts, in building the cellars as well as making the wines. Germain Bachelet, a French oenologist, selected vines in Bordeaux en brought them to Chile.
Nowadays, Santa Carolina is a highly respected name in the Chilean wine-growing. It is a modern company, that invests in modern techniques, but at the same time maintains certain traditions. Under the guidance of wine maker Maria del Pilar Gonzalez, the wines have become more elegant and fruity over the past few years. According to some, is it due to her ‘female touch’.
In 2015, Santa Carolina celebrated its 140 th anniversary and was chosen the New World Winery of the Year by the prestigious American magazine Wine Enthusiast.
