The story of Poggiotondo begins in 1968 with Carlo Antonini, a teacher, passionate about agriculture and a beekeeper during his spare time. He bought the properties that historically belonged to the Conti Guidi, an ancient noble family who owned lands in Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. This family gave the village its name, Cerreto Guidi in the Medioevo.
Cerreto Guidi, located on the “via francigena” was the destination for pilgrims and Cosimo from Fiorentina. Today Cerreto Guidi, belonging to the province of Florence is an authentic place in the heart of Tuscany, close to Pisa, Lucca and Siena at 40km from the Tirrenian sea.
The great passion of Carlo for viticulture was transmitted to his son Alberto, who together with his wife Alessandra, aims to valorize the territory in to the respect of Tuscan wine growing tradition. Alberto and Alessandra live in the main house inside the Poggitondo property, together with their three children, Angelica, Margherita and Carlo.
The mediterranean climate and the limestone soil, organic farming and the focus on the native grapes such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and small part of Trebbiano, make the original “Chianti Recipe”.
Poggiotondo is organic certified since vintage 2014.
